Excursions

API students participate in several excursions per session designed to help familiarize them with areas of their host city, country, and surrounding region. The following is a listing of all excursions for API London programs. All excursions are subject to change.

Winter/Spring

HARLAXTON MANOR

Escaping to the countryside, students will experience what life is like at a stately Manor House.  They will spend an afternoon at Harlaxton Manor, where they will take a tour of the manor and learn more about the history of the buildings. In addition to this, students will be treated to Afternoon Tea in the Conservatory and enjoy a very English lawn sport, Croquet in the grounds of the manor.  This is an exclusive excursion just for API as Harlaxton Manor is usually closed to the public.

THE HARRY POTTER STUDIO TOUR

The Harry Potter Studio Tour London provides a unique showcase of the extraordinary British artistry, technology and talent that went into making one of the most successful film series of all time. Students have the chance to go behind-the-scenes and see many things the camera never showed. From breathtakingly detailed sets to stunning costumes, to props and animatronics. Students explore a huge array of beautiful sets, costumes and props. Some closely guarded secrets, including facts about the special effects and animatronics, will be revealed.

STRATFORD AND WARWICK CASTLE

Stratford-Upon-Avon is one of the most historic and picturesque towns in the UK , beautifully preserved since Shakespeare’s day. Dating back to the 13th century, Holy Trinity Church, where Shakespeare and his wife are buried, has copies of Shakespeare’s baptismal and burial records. Warwick Castle was the home of the Earls of Warwick until recently and is one of the most complete and dramatic medieval castles in England.

CAMBRIDGE

Though best known as the home of the University of Cambridge, Cambridge was important long before the University existed. Around AD 40 the Romans took over the site and it became the crossing point for the Via Devana which linked Colchester with the legions in Lincoln and beyond. The first scholars didn’t arrive in Cambridge until 1209 and another 75 years passed before Hugh de Balsham, Bishop of Ely, founded Peterhouse, the first college. Today Cambridge is the city of crocuses and daffodils on The Backs, of green open spaces, and of cattle grazing only 500 yards from the market square.

WALES WEEKEND

Wales has more castles per square mile than anywhere else in the world. Every hill, church or standing stone has a story all of its own. Cardiff, the capital city is the location of many Dr. Who scenes, and the Welsh countryside is home to picturesque abbeys and castles painted by many artists through the centuries.
