Bienvenidos a Chile
Chile’s tremendous range covers a hugely diverse array of landscapes, from the desolate moonscape of Chile’s Atacama Desert, to the fertile vineyards of the Central Valley, to the lush rainforests of the Lake District, down to the magnificent glaciers and peaks of Patagonia — not to mention more than 3,000 miles of coastline and Easter Island. It’s truly mind-boggling to think of how many different experiences one can have in this diverse South American nation.
Santiago, the capital and the largest city in Chile, was founded in 1541. It is home to over a third of Chileans and is the commercial and political center of Chile. With a vast public transportation system, a growing economy, top universities, it is one of South American most modern, safe, and thriving cities.
Santiago offers a diverse range of cultural attractions, including eclectic neighborhoods, museums, shopping, restaurants, and cafes. European influences can be seen in the neoclassical architecture, city parks, and cuisine. Museo de Historia National, Museo National de Bellas Artes, Cerro de San Cristobal, and barrio Bella Vista are just a few of the sights to see.
Centrally located in Chile, Santiago makes a great starting point for visiting other parts of Chile. On the weekends, you can find yourself hiking in Patagonia, walking beautiful coastal beach areas, skiing in the Andes, or touring world-class vineyards in Mendoza.
