Parsons Paris Housing

Parsons Paris is partnering with Academic Programs International (API), a preferred housing provider, to offer housing to students in Paris. For the 2017-18 academic year, API offers three different housing options for Parsons Paris students. Students may choose to live in a shared student flat, with a local host family or in an individual studio in a residence hall. Prices vary according to the option selected, and may be limited in supply. Internet is included in all three options.

As a Parsons Paris student, you join a diverse community in a dynamic city. We encourage students unfamiliar with Paris, particularly first-year students, to take advantage of student housing.

Parsons Paris is located in a newly renovated historic building at 45 rue Saint-Roch, a short walk from the Louvre, the Opéra Garnier, Place Vendôme, and other cultural highlights. Students from around the world looking for a Parsons education in an international city with a program taught in English study and live alongside New School mobility students spending one or two semesters away from New York to immerse themselves in the creative and intellectual activity of Paris.

APPLY FOR HOUSING:

Information about each housing option, including features, photos, and deadlines & fees, can be found in the “Housing Descriptions” tab.  Once you have reviewed the options and are ready to apply, click on the yellow “Apply for Housing” button in the top righthand corner of the page.

Please note that housing applicants will be required to rank all three options in order of preference.  First choice preferences cannot be guaranteed, but we will do our best to accommodate as many first choice requests as possible.

Your type of housing will be confirmed after the housing application period has closed.  Your specific housing assignment, including the address, will be provided two to three weeks prior to the start of the semester.

SHARED FLATS / APARTMENTS

Shared apartments are located throughout the city in safe neighborhoods.  Most house 4 students in 2 bedrooms, with a shared living room, kitchen, and bathroom.  Meals are not included but kitchen appliances will be provided.  Apartments are equipped with washing machines but dryers are not common in Paris, so students will hang dry laundry, or bring it to a local laundromat. Free cleaning service is included twice per month.  Apartments are typically between 60-70 square metres.

Paris is a large city, so students can expect to use public transportation (i.e. metro or bus) to move around the city on a daily basis, both getting to school and for social/cultural activities. It is a part of life in Paris! Generally, it will take students about 30 minutes to get to school from their housing.

HOST FAMILIES

Host families serve as a unique introduction into French culture.  Students who opt to live with a host will be placed in an apartment with a local host family.  This could be a single woman or an older couple who no longer have children in the home.  In some cases, you could be placed with a family who has children, young or older, who may or may not still be living at home.  The amount of interaction a student will have with the host varies.  The apartments typically have 2-4 bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen and living/dining area.  In some cases, there may be another international student in the same apartment.  Students who choose to live with families are provided with daily breakfast and two dinner meals per week with the family.  You will be able to use the kitchen to store and prepare food according to a schedule agreed upon between you and your host. Some host family placements may be just outside of the official Paris city limits. Please note that most homes and apartments do not have central air conditioning and many buildings do not have elevators. It is important to remember that you will be a guest in the home and you should follow similar social standards that you would as an invited guest in any home.

INDEPENDENT HOUSING

If the housing options offered through the program do not meet your needs or if you have family/friends in the host city that you plan to live with, you may choose to opt out of program housing.  The staff on site in Paris are not able to provide assistance in finding alternate housing, nor are they able to intervene if problems arise once on-site, so students must be prepared to handle all arrangements independently.   Independent housing is NOT recommended for students staying less than one academic year, or for students who do not have command of the host country language.
