API awards approximately $400,000 in study abroad scholarships annually ranging from $250 -$1,000 per student!
API General Scholarship
The API scholarship offers awards that range from $250 to $1,000 per session. The scholarship is need and merit-based. We will review your academic record, essays and financial need as stated in your own words. Fall, Winter/Spring, Academic Year and Summer students are eligible to apply

API is pleased to support students who are the first in their families to attend a college or university. The API First Generation Scholarship offers one deserving semester or academic year student a scholarship in the amount of $750.

API is pleased to support students who are studying science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The API STEM Scholarship offers one deserving semester or academic year student a scholarship in the amount of $750.

API/JCU Early Bird Scholarship
Students who are interested in studying abroad with API at John Cabot University in Rome have the opportunity to earn an “early bird scholarship” from $200 – $350 off of their program fee, simply by applying to the program in advance of the application deadlines.
In order to qualify for this scholarship, students must submit their application to the API/JCU program per term according to the following schedule:
- Summer 1 : February 11 ($200 scholarship)
- Summer 2: February 11 ($200 scholarship)
- Summer 1 &2: February 11 ($200 scholarship)
- Fall : February 25 ($350 scholarship)
- Spring: September 30 ($250 scholarship)
Students who attend direct bill schools should speak to their Study Abroad Office about how this early bird scholarship may apply to them.
API/JCU Diversity Scholarship
The API/JCU Diversity Scholarship provides one full tuition scholarship per session abroad (Fall, Spring, Summer 1, Summer 2) to an outstanding minority student to encourage diversity at the John Cabot University campus in Rome, Italy.

API/Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Awards
The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.
Students participating on an API program who have been awarded a Gilman scholarship will be eligible to receive up to $1,000 in matching contributions from API. To receive this award, Gilman winners should indicate their scholarship details on their financial aid information after acceptance to an API study abroad program.
