The API Fall 2011 Photo Contest winners have been chosen! After much difficult deliberation (and comments on the Flickr photoset), the API staff selected the following winners and honorable mention from among a pool of very talented photographers.
1) First Place ($100 cash prize)
Michael Pitts, student from Quinnipiac University in API’s program at Lorenzo de’Medici – the Italian International Institute in Florence, Italy. Michael submitted several amazing photos, but the one that raised the most eyebrows was this photo at the British Museum in London.
2) Second Place ($50 cash prize)
Kaitlin Desselle, student from the University of Florida in API’s Spanish Culture program at Complutense University in Madrid, Spain. Kaitlin also had too many amazing photos to chose from, but the one that caught our imagination was this hauntingly beautiful view of the Alhambra fortress at night.
3) Third Place ($25 cash prize)
Mary Donovan, student at the University of Vermont in API’s Spanish Language and Latin American Studies Program at the Instituto San Joaquin de Flores in Costa Rica.
Honorable Mention*
Elizabeth Francis, student from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell in API’s Spanish Language and Culture Program at the University of Granada. (Dancer at Eiffel Tower)
Rachel Greco, student from Fairfield University in API’s Spanish Language, Business, and Applied Social Sciences Program at Pablo de Olavide Universityin Seville. (La Setas de la Encarnación en Sevilla)
Victoria Snow, student from Bryant University in API’s program at Lorenzo de’Medici – the Italian International Institute in Florence, Italy. (A love lock attached to the Ponte Vecchio)
Samantha Wohlfeil, student from Western Washington University in API’s Intensive Language Program at the University of Granada. (Flowers in Spain).
Thank you to all API alumni who participated in the photo contest — we can’t wait to see what the spring 2012 students submit!
*There were several other great shots from our contest winners that could not be featured in this post, but are in the Flickr photoset.
