Things to do, people to see, places to go
Lily Sokolowski is the API Peer Mentor at Texas Woman’s University. She studied with API in Florence, Italy. “I saw David yesterday. He’s hot.” Granted the only David I knew was the forty year old café owner on my street, I was a little confused as to what exactly my friend was talking about. “Whaat?” [...]GETTING STARTED
Design an API Customized or Faculty-Led Program
API will work with your institution to design a program that meets the needs of your students and faculty.
We offer several models of programs to accomplish the educational goals of every program.
API’s Customized and Faculty-Led Program Models
1) U.S. Faculty-Led:
A faculty member from your institution teaches the course(es), and API makes all logistical arrangements.
2) Host Country Faculty Instruction:
API arranges for host country faculty to teach specific courses to your students and API takes care of all of the logistical arrangements.
3) Combination:
API arranges for a faculty member from your institution and host country faculty to teach the courses while taking care of all of the other logistical arrangements.
4) Adopt an API Program:
If an already existing API program meets your needs, your institution simply “adopts” the program and markets it to your students. This program model does not require a 10-student minimum and works especially well for language and culture programs. In addition, if ten or more of your students enroll in the program, API will provide airfare and lodging for a faculty/staff member from your institution.
5) Traveling Program:
A U.S. faculty led, host country faculty taught, or combination, that takes place in more than one location.
6) Curricular Integration Program:
API can help you and your faculty implement a specific course curriculum at one of API’s partner institutions abroad. API will assist by identifying the appropriate term, location and host institution as well as providing course curriculum matching assistance and handling all on-site student services and logistical needs.
We can arrange customized programs in any of the following locations or in a combination of locations:
- Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA
- San Joaquín de Flores or San José, COSTA RICA
- Caen, Grenoble or Paris, FRANCE
- Budapest, HUNGARY
- Leeds or London, ENGLAND
- Cork, Dublin, Galway or Limerick, IRELAND

The phases of program development:
PHASE I: Program Planning
PHASE II: Program Marketing
PHASE III: Program Operation
PHASE IV: Program Evaluation
Program Planning
As we begin to design a program for you, we will need the following information:
- API program model, program location, and dates
- Academic theme or focus, courses, and number of credits
- Anticipated number of students
- Type of excursions, cultural/academic activities, or lectures needed
- Type of accommodation that is preferred
Program Marketing
Once we have determined all of the program basics, we will then assist you with:
- Developing a campus marketing plan
- Creating a program application (Sample Application)
- Preparing program flyers and marketing materials (Sample Marketing Flyer)
Program Operation
Throughout your program, you can count on API’s resident directors to be there to:
- Present a thorough on-site orientation and answer any questions
- Guide all requested excursions, cultural events, and academic activities
- Assist with any student issues or emergencies
- Provide overall support to both your faculty and students
Program Evaluation
When the program has ended, API will follow through by:
- Sending a program evaluation to the school administrator, faculty member(s), and students
- Analyzing evaluation data to share with home university
- Responding to any post-program requests and making recommendations for next year’s program
